Understanding the Iowa Caucus

An interesting talk and discussion with Joseph Jones, Executive Director of Iowa-based The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement was held on February 19, 2020 in cooperation with the US Embassy.

It was in 1972 that Iowa held its first modern-day democratic caucus. Since then, these caucuses have served a historic role in the United States’ presidential selection process. Jones will discuss their significance and how we can understand and analyze the results.

Joseph Jones serves as Executive Director for The Harkin Institute for Public Policy & Citizen Engagement.

Previous functions include Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Public Policy for the Greater Des Moines Partnership; Legislative Assistant to Senator Tom Harkin in Washington, D.C.; and Director of Governmental Affairs for the Iowa Finance Authority.

Jones earned a Master of Public Administration degree in public policy and a Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership and Administration from Drake University.
